Doula Services

Being in a hospital and giving birth, on the whole, can be scary, especially if you are expecting for the first time. Any thoughts of needles, bright lights, doctors and the clinical smell of a hospital can put anyone in a state of anxiety.

As a Doula and a mother of 3 kids, I GET THAT, I feel completely comfortable with birth. I also know that any Fear you may experience can cause tension, which can result in more pain and possible complications. It is my job to keep you relaxed, calm, comfortable and to enjoy your birth.

“Doula” is a Greek word meaning “in the service of women”, and is used to describe a professionally trained Labour Support Companion. who supports you physically and emotionally. Your Doctors or Gynaecologist may not be on-call when you are in labour and the labour nurses or midwives may need to change shift in the middle of your labour, forcing you to get used to someone new.

Your Doula, however, is the only practitioner in your birth team, who offers her continuous support throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and even postpartum, whether you have to be transferred to a different hospital or not. This allows you a chance to establish a close relationship with your Doula, who can assist you specifically according to your likes, dislikes and preferences.

A Doula is essentially there to “Mother the Mother”

It is now widely recognized that choosing to add a labour support person to one’s birth team can yield many positive benefits. Your memories of your birth experience last a lifetime and can have powerful effects on your self-esteem and confidence and the emotional well – being of your baby too.

What some of my Clients have to say:

Ameena-JamalHi moms just thought I would share my experience I had with my beautiful doula. My doula was Zaahida, and what a wonderful person she was, I was a candidate for a VBAC even though it wasn’t successful, Zaahida was super supportive. She gave me information about what to expect in labour that I never heard of before…she made me feel relaxed and calm even though I was stressed since I didn’t know what to expect. She gave me back massages and also informed me of the different birthing positions and which exercises to do to help bring the baby lower into the cervix. I don’t know how I would manage without all the support, knowledge and encouragement from Zaahida.

I highly recommend Zaahida’s services to every women/mum to be out there who wants the security and comfort Zaahida has given me, we didn’t know each other for a long time but I felt so comfortable with her after meeting her for the first time, it’s like we just clicked. Thank you Zaahida Joel.

When a woman is pregnant you experience a lot of emotions and when you are in labour, it just doubles emotions and anxiety. To have someone, besides your husband by your side that cares and is compassionate is very rare. I personally can say to have a doula is a great comfort, fortunately for me, I had Zaahida as my doula, and I could never have been happier. To have someone comfort you and give you reassurance in an emotional time is amazing, but what is even greater is when you know she will not leave your side. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being the person you are and for being, not only my doula but now my friend  Thank you for being there as fast as you were. I would tell anyone that is about to give birth if you looking for a doula and someone with an amazing heart and truly caring nature, Zaahida Nathoo Joel is definitely the one for you Jazaakallah my darling, it means more than you will ever know!
