“A must for any mother” –ROMPER
After raising over $43K in a successful Kickstarter for an edgy collection of stylish breastfeeding apparel last year, Leche Libre returns with a new plus size collection for moms in sizes 16W – 26W. Leche Libre has launched it’s Kickstarter to coincide with National Breastfeeding Awareness month.
Fashion and breastfeeding apparel rarely mix, and plus size moms have few options in general. Wearing something beyond the basic camisoles can make breastfeeding or pumping on the go an awkward and even uncomfortable experience that’s far from body positive.
After the birth of her two children, founder, Andrea Newberry, had a hard time finding clothing to breastfeed easily that did not make her feel frumpy. “I loved being a mom, but I felt like I had disappeared as a person,” she says. Newberry launched Leche Libre as a way to help new moms like her reclaim their identities so they can confidently breastfeed whenever they want and step out in style without losing their edge. Andrea is a stay-at-home mom turned award winning self-taught fashion entrepreneur. She lives and works out of a funky two flat on the west side of Chicago with her husband and her kiddos, six-year-old Thora and four-year-old Otto. Her line is inspired by her dedication to make mom’s lives easier and fueled by her rebellious punk rock aesthetic.
Newberry wanted to create a collection that would give plus moms access to the same zip-and-sip concept that made the first Kickstarter successful. “The average American woman is size 18, and over half of nursing women in the US have no options for stylish breastfeeding clothing. Leche Libre is going to change that.” Newberry says. Teaming up with plus fashion designer Casey Sunich and inclusive wardrobe stylist Kat Eves, Newberry has designed a truly body positive plus collection that celebrates moms’ curves in all shapes and sizes.

THE LECHE LIBRE STORY
Leche Libre is redefining the look of modern motherhood with a groundbreaking collection of edgy breastfeeding apparel, empowering a new generation of women to #freethenipple with confidence. Listed by Chicagoist as one of Chicago’s 6 best local fashion designers, Leche Libre’s mission is clear: empower moms to breastfeed while maintaining their sense of identity and style.
When Andrea Newberry started Leche Libre, she didn’t have a business background, she just had a problem she needed to solve. The idea for Leche Libre came after the limited breastfeeding apparel options left Newberry feeling frumpy and out of touch with her own style. “I loved being a mom, but I felt like I had disappeared as a person,” Newberry recalls. She felt like being a good role model as a mom shouldn’t be solely about self-sacrifice.
